Janelle Russell

Janelle Russell is the Administrator of the Elite Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery. In this position, Janelle coordinates all the daily clinical and financial operations of the facility – ranging from surgery schedules, staffing, medical supplies, accounts payable and more.

Janelle assumed this position in mid 2010 – noting the opportunity to get in on the ground floor and build the center from the ground up. "It's a small organization, and everybody does something outside of their main job description. It's a great opportunity for continual growth," she said.

Janelle says the most rewarding aspect of her job is that ECMIS is getting better and better each and every month. She attributes the center's success to exceptional customer service – for patients, for families, and for doctors. "The patients and families love the warm, caring and inviting family atmosphere we've created. And when the doctors come to work at our center… they don't want to leave," said Janelle, whose been in the healthcare industry since 2000 after earning a nursing degree from Prairie View A&M University and an MBA from Houston Baptist University.

Since that time, she's worked in virtually all areas of the operating room – ranging from cardiovascular and neurosurgery to podiatry, orthopedics and pain. Her credentials include posts at Twelve Oaks Hospital, River Oaks Surgery Center, Memorial Village Surgery Center and Texas Children's Hospital.

When looking back on her career, Janelle says she's most proud of the fact that no matter what position she has assumed… she's always been asked to do more. She attributes her "go to" appeal to having people skills and always grooming that next person in line.

"Great leaders are determined by who is coming behind them… and making sure there's skilled staff to take over their roles," said Janelle, who serves on the Harris County Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, and the Association of Operating Room Nurses. "If I don't have someone coming behind me who can do what I do and do it well… then I really haven't been successful."

When asked what joining the ECMIS has taught her about herself, Janelle says that she knows she can always learn more… and she can always do more. Janelle says she's looking forward to "learning more…. and doing more" for the center in the coming months, and continuing to make her distinguished mark on the healthcare arena in Houston.
